The club is collaborating with the Calder Rivers Trust on an exciting project to regularly test and analyse the quality of the water in which we paddle (and sometimes swim!). A well attended training session with the Rivers Trust has set us up with all the sampling kit needed to measure a range of river characteristics and pollutants.
Water quality testing by community groups is happening all over the country and the findings are putting pressure on polluters, regulators and government to take action on the dreadful quality of our rivers, lakes and seas. We can use the data to know more about what we’re paddling in, when there are spikes in pollution but also work with the Rivers Trust to use the findings more strategically.
All the sampling kit, instructions and links to the submission form are now in the club house. Take a look next time you’re there. If you attended the training session please take samples, show others how to do it and upload results. You can see the findings over time on our dashboard. We’ll circulate these links by email.
If you’re interested and didn’t make the training session, drop me a line and we’ll arrange another one.
